Self Care

Out of Whack

I'm Monique!

Seems my 9th grade English teacher was right. That flair for writing she called out decades ago has blossomed into a love of words and an even deeper desire to use those words to connect with hearts. Welcome, my friend. I'm so glad you're here.

What’s the tell tale sign that your self care is way out of whack?

Mine: A cluttered bedroom.

Yep. The moment I start to feel chaotic, disheveled, all over the place – the moment I start describing my self, or my life, as “a hot mess,” – I stop, glance around my bedroom and usually notice quite a bit out of place.

Books stacked in various corners instead of placed in order on the bookshelf.

Clean laundry mixed in with dirty laundry because…well, it took me so long to actually put the clean laundry away.

LoveMo packages stacked against the wall instead of taken outside to the shed.

Shoes on the floor instead of on the shoe rack.

My room is like a mirror for my brain.

This week is my scheduled #WeekofNo.

Yes, I said scheduled.

A #WeekofNo may not be a term you’re familiar with, but I realized that, in my world, in order for folks to honor this time and “take me seriously,” I had to take myself seriously – and for me, that meant throwing it on the calendar just as I would any other important commitment.

What is a #WeekofNo?

Plain and simple: It’s a week where I say NO to everyone else and YES to me.

NO to social activity that tends to fill my evenings. And YES to me time.

NO to cubicle life and YES to working outdoors. Ya know, treating my brain with a little visual stimulation.

NO to the clutter and YES to putting my room back in order.

The same applies to the brain.

NO to TV binging and music. YES to more praying, journaling and unpacking my thoughts.

NO to everyone else. And YES to me.

Goals for this week (besides a clean room):

  1. Check in on my heart and figure out what I’ve been ignoring, what I’ve been storing, and what I’ve been feeling over the last few months.
  2. Pay some attention to LoveMo…what does business even look like as I dream of 2022?
  3. Rest. Mentally. Physically. And emotionally.

If you’re reading this and thinking to yourself “hey, I could sure use a #WeekofNo,” try it out. Start small – maybe implement a #WeekendofNo first. We fill our calendars with so many things for so many other people…it’s about time we start filling it with more just for US

Hey, I'm Monique.
Your new BFF + the hype-woman you've been praying for.

For a long time I let certain parts of my story make me feel like I was never good enough. Deep down, I knew there was MORE to life. Can you relate? Turns out, I was right. There IS more to life. It wasn’t until I gave myself the gift of self care and slowing down where I realized one of the most mind blowing lessons of my life—The world needs what we have within us. What God's given each of us, uniquely, carries a power and an impact needed on Earth right now. It's time to take up your space, girlfriend. And I'm here to help!
