12 New Reads for the New Year

I'm Monique!

Seems my 9th grade English teacher was right. That flair for writing she called out decades ago has blossomed into a love of words and an even deeper desire to use those words to connect with hearts. Welcome, my friend. I'm so glad you're here.

Any fellow bookworms out there?

FUN FACT: I love books. Like, looove books. Biographies/Memoirs are – and always have been – my genre of choice. Hmmm, seems I’ve always been interested in people’s stories.

I’m one of those “Barnes & Nobles is one of my favorite stores” kinda gals. The kinda gal that screenshots photos of nurseries that have bookshelves as a part of the room decor. The kinda gal that throws a book into every baby basket I create.

My favorite movie growing up was Beauty & The Beast. And I always said “when I grow up, I want a library like THAT in my house.” Beauty & The Beast fans know which library I’m talking about! Looking back, I clearly didn’t know space was at a premium in this beautiful state.

There’s something so soothing about cracking open an actual book. Sure, I sit in traffic each morning so audio books have become a thing, but it’s just not the same.

A few weeks ago, I cleared my morning, curled up in bed and cracked open Rachel Hollis’ gem of a book, Girl Wash Your Face. I had every intention of reading 2-3 chapters and then getting to work. Yeaaaah. I read the entire book. Well, for starters, its amazing! But I didn’t realize how soul-filling it is to just get lost in a story. BAM! 2019 goal added to the list: Read 1 book a month. That’s it. Just one book. Of course, one day, I’d love to get to Ashley Herrinton’s level of book reading in a year (40+ YOU GO, GIRL!) but 12 is doable for me. Here are the chosen few for 2019 – none for head, ALL for heart. I’ll throw some reviews up as I digest them all.

JANUARY: Cultivate, Lara CaseyFEBRUARY: The Best Yes, Lysa Terkeurst | MARCH: Becoming, Michelle Obama | APRIL: 100 Days of Brave, Annie Downs | MAY: Girl, Stop Apologizing, Rachel Hollis | JUNE: Strong Girl, Brave Girl, Kelsey Baldwin | JULY: Make It Happen, Lara Casey | AUGUST: Kill the Spider, Carlos Whittaker | SEPTEMBER: Proof of Heaven, Dr. Eben Alexander | OCTOBER: Everybody Always, Bob Goff | NOVEMBER: There is More, Brian Houston | DECEMBER: Unashamed, Christine Caine

Any must-reads I’m missing for 2019? Send them my way. And until then, go read something!

Hey, I'm Monique.
Your new BFF + the hype-woman you've been praying for.

For a long time I let certain parts of my story make me feel like I was never good enough. Deep down, I knew there was MORE to life. Can you relate? Turns out, I was right. There IS more to life. It wasn’t until I gave myself the gift of self care and slowing down where I realized one of the most mind blowing lessons of my life—The world needs what we have within us. What God's given each of us, uniquely, carries a power and an impact needed on Earth right now. It's time to take up your space, girlfriend. And I'm here to help!
